Stephanie and Ryan were set to say their vows surrounded by friends and family in June 2020. The pair has spent countless hours planning what will be a truly incredible celebration. Just a few weeks ago, they were faced with the very difficult decision of postponing their wedding due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and well being of their loved ones is their top priority and ultimately decided it was the best way to keep them safe. My heart goes out to them as they navigate this new normal that has become quarantine life. One thing I know for sure: when they finally get to celebrate their day, the party is going to be amazing! I can't wait to catch up with these two in person as soon as it's safe to do so.
How they met...
Stephanie and Ryan have been friends since their days at Pinckney High School. After graduation, they started on different paths and slowly drifted apart only to reconnect years later in the most serendipitous way. I believe this story is best told in Stephanie's own words. Excerpt from their wedding website on the Knot.com
"While on our separate paths, Ryan and I both settled down with other people and became engaged. As life would have it, my engagement ended in January 2018 and Ryan's subsequently a few months later. It just so happened, that while scrolling through social media one day I stumbled upon Ryan's latest update and something told me I simply had to reach out to my old friend. I mean what are the odds anyone else could possibly relate. I sent Ryan a message asking if he'd like to meet and grab a drink to catch up and share war stories. Not but a week later we were sitting in Wolverine Brewery in Ann Arbor, laughing and having more than just a beer or two. Hours passed like minutes and it was as if we'd never spent a moment apart much less the last several years. We left that night with lighter hearts, a renewed connection, and telling each other how we both couldn't believe what an amazing time we'd had. The next morning, I awoke to a new message, not from Ryan but rather from Deb. Saying just how excited she was that Ryan and I got to connect and catch up. Given the fact that I spent an immense amount of time at the Volk household over the years, and missed them almost as much; I couldn't help myself but to chuckle and text Ryan to tell him how sweet I thought that was. We both had a good laugh, which was followed I am certain by an immediate call to his mother. Later that day however, I got a text asking if, I indeed would like to go on an official date when he returned from a family trip to Florida. Of course, I said yes and then a year and half later on October 12th, I said yes again. Yes, to spending the rest of my life with my lifelong best friend. To a man I have known and loved for over 20 years. People say "things happen for a reason" a saying I used to hate more than anything until I understood it. That day in Wolverine I knew, it was as if I hadn't realized I had been away for so long, but my heart had finally come home." - Stephanie
I want to honor these two by sharing some of the images we created during their engagement session. We met on a very snowy Sunday at Lillie Park in Ann Arbor. Even in freezing temperatures, the connection between them was undeniable. Stephanie and Ryan have made Saline, MI their home so it was only fitting to finish our session in the quaint downtown as the sun set.
I'm looking forward to capturing their October wedding at The Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor. It's going to be one for the books!
